Thursday & Friday Journal (20260715)
Publish Date: 2026-07-17
Thursday and Friday are my remote work days; which came from the pandemic days to reduce the number of employees in the office. Originally my remote work days were Tuesday and Friday, but that was recently changed.
I don't know why my job still lets me have the two remote days to work, but I do appreciate it very much! Honestly, I could work remote 100% of the time these days since there's nothing on-prem that would need my attention anymore, but the company wants there to be a presence of people in the office, which is why I still have to commute in three days out of the week. Like I said, I appreciate the two days I get off so I'm not gonna complain.
This Thursday morning I didn't make anything for breakfast. There wasn't anything going on in the office or for work that needed my attention that morning so I felt a little inspired that morning to piddle around in FL Studio again. Somewhere around the lunch hour I finished most of what I was working on and made a turkey sandwich for lunch. You can listen to it here if you're interested, lemme know what you think!
That late afternoon I had a bible study meetup to get to where we discussed the atonement. To save from any doctrinal bickering in the comments, I won't go into it here, but it was a really good meetup to say the least. Since it went on a little late into the night, I stopped off at WhatABurger on the drive back home to get a bite to eat. I've noticed their medium size drinks are the original large size, which has me wondering how large is a large?
As soon as I got home, I promptly went to bed.
This Friday I slept in again till 8AM in the morning since I don't have to really be online for work till 8:15AM. Like I've said before too, there's never anything going on that early in the morning either, so I trundled over tot he kitchen to make a pot off coffee and breakfast.
I made a toasted egg and cheese bacon sandwich, which was excellent. A nice change from oatmeal and Malt-O Meal by this point in the week.
Work was pretty lite today again too. I spent most of the morning on a call talking with a lady that was showing me what was needed for a security verification report. The report was recently dumped in my lap since a co-worker of mine who did it is out on extended leave due to some health issues. Anyhow after the short training segment, we caught up talking on a few things not work related.
A few years ago she went thru a divorce and lost most everything from it. She bought a house about three years ago (same time as me), which home ownership is mostly what we talk about, but we took different directions in how we went about buying our houses. Since she's in her mid 50's and trying to prepare for a retirement, she's been taking on additional jobs to pay off all of her debts by following the "Dave Ramsey" method. (I can't recall if I ever blogged about him in the past, but I personally never really liked the guy. Nevertheless, he does have some good advice for people wanting to get out of debt. If I recall, he's just applying the "snowball method" of tackling debt?)
Anyhow, she recently paid off all her debts excluding the house, and is now focusing on paying off the house which I forget how much she said she had left, but it was a lot. Like, a few hundred thousand lot...
The method I went (because I avoid debt like a plague) was buying my house in cash, which meant buying a distressed property that I could afford with what little I had. So where she's working toward paying off debts to afford her house, I'm working toward restoring my house with what I make. Both sides have their pros and cons, so it always makes for an encouraging discussion to catch up on.
I've spent the rest of the day cleaning the house by the way. I'm expecting some family over this weekend and so want to make sure it's at least clean grungy and not dirty grungy!
Oh and also, I found a Jury Summons in the mailbox I only check once a month. Oops! Of course it was late and so I call the county clerk office and fortunately the jury was cancelled so I was okay. I was really fretting over missing that. Note to self, check mailbox every day! I never bothered checking it because I'm not 60+ years old and because I only ever get coupon junk mail and wasp nests in that thing. It's a wonder the postal service remains in business. I mean, I'd hate to see em go because I do use them on occasion, but who checks their mail!? I have a PO BOX in town for this kind of official stuff that I do check weekly, but they sent it to the mailbox at my house! Big mistake, I ought to pull that thing up and toss in the barn out back.
And yeah I know it might seem strange to some of you that I don't check the mailbox at my house as frequently as my PO BOX in town. I don't know how else to explain it, but perhaps it's a cultural thing in living where I do? It's always been this way. Basically, everyone in the boonies has a PO BOX in town and sets that up for their direct mail while the mailbox at their house is only there because it's either required, came with the place from a bygone era, or they're 60+ years old and want it for the news paper delivery. Meanwhile the PO BOX can't be broken into and robbed, and for older people their medication won't melt in the summer heat.
Alright I've rambled on enough now and it's getting late. I have more to write about, but I'll do that later. I just hope I can get this one uploaded to the server before midnight!
