General Update v24
I like windows, but not Windows.
So it seems I have a few things to write about for this general update post. It's been a few months, but I'm still learning how to make window frames and I believe I've cracked the code!
There's actually nothing cryptic to it at all, other than what my own incompetence makes of it, but it comes down to technique and equipment. As is my usual learning process, I'm just bumbling along until I figure it out and I think I've figured out a good deal.
I have a few pictures to share of the frame, but I do want to acknowledge that it's by no means perfect... if you're a carpenter, you'll probably see what I mean.
I don't wanna bore you guys with all the details, but I recently discovered a tool called a router table sled. I made my own out of some squared up spare stock, but it was a bit jank and didn't work perfectly. Regardless, the results are so much better than the junk I was making before without it!
So with that, I'm going to buy a router table sled with built in clamps and a guide so that I don't have to use pieces of scrap and screws to stabilize everything. It's too tedious having to make adjustments with screws compared to clamps, so it's clearly worth the expense in my book to just buy one. There are DIY guides on making one, and it's really not that too complicated, but I got plenty of cash to spare so it doesn't bother me.
I'll make a followup post sometime soon when I get a real window sash finished.
I made a minor update to the site to re-include the navigator buttons for the blog list on the front page of CozyNet. If you scroll to the bottom of the page you'll see what I'm talking about.
Ideally each page listing the blog posts will contain 10 posts total before requiring the user to click for older posts. There's a jump to front page and jump to last page button available too. I absolutely despise inline dynamic loading of web content as you scroll a web page, so in case you're wondering about that, that's why I'm doing the pagination method here.
I'll probably make a few more tweaks to it to include a mini-sitemap option for accessibility, because I'm not very fond of the 1, 2, 3, ... 100 method of pager buttons either. Would be best to just list everything somewhere. In the meantime, the site search works perfectly fine so long you know what you're looking for.
Recently I've noticed the price of memory has gotten too darn high! I also hear that SSD's are more expensive and GPU's are still expensive too along with fabricators leaving their consumer business line to sell exclusively to commercial and enterprise customers.
Does this mean we should start stocking up on toilet-paper again? Maaaaybe...
But it would probably behoove you to begin hoarding scrap hardware where possible. DDR3 and DDR4 memory aren't that bad so long you have the hardware to support it. Most of my computers are DDR3 which I don't really have a usecase for these days while my laptop is DDR4. The only M.2 SATA SSD I have is also in my laptop while all the rest are still either mechanical disk drives or SATA3 SSD's, so the price hikes don't really bother me but I wouldn't put it past people to start rifling thru the old stuff too.
Really the intent should be to have people you might know in mind that can't afford a new computer rather than sitting on a pile of old parts for your own amusement. If you know how to fix em and build em, then it could probably mean the world to them just to get their clunker back online or at the very least assemble them a new old clunker!
Anyway, I have been considering buying an old motherboard in case I ever need to replace mine in the NAS. The NAS board would be by far the more difficult one to replace since it supports the ECC memory I have for it, staggered power up for the mechanical disk drives, and a whole bunch of SATA connectors on it too while in an ITX form factor. Maybe get it another CPU and PSU for good measure eh?
As for the gamers out there and Valve's new Steam Machines, I wonder how that's panning out? I don't game anymore, but if I did - actually let me take that back; back when I did game, I only played old games because all the stuff post 2016 was garbage. 2011 seemed like the last good year of gaming in my book, so I can't imagine what could possibly be worth playing in 2026 that isn't the same old bag of tricks from over 10 years ago.
I guess this is what it means getting old. Hey I'm not that old!
Speaking of age, I'll be turning 33 here soon so yeah that'll be cool I guess. It means I get a cake and probably a free dinner, I know that much! I'll might try to surprise my parents and buy supper though.
Welp, that's all I got.
Thanks for reading my blog!
