Journal (2026-11-02) - Jell-O salad and glass for kitchen windows
Publish Date: 2026-11-02
Inspired by some old pictures of rather unappetizing Jell-O salads (also known as aspic), I decided to make a jello fruit salad recipe that I wrote down from "Home Cooking Memories." I like lime and pineapple jello, but this was a recipe I came by that sounded yummy and I've been wanting to make it except for one problem; I needed a mold to form it in!
I kept forgetting to buy one, but it's a Bundt pan (a cake pan). You can form jello in just about anything, but I wanted to do it this way instead of the usual casserole pan.
The recipe for this jello calls for cottage cheese, crushed pineapple, evaporated milk, mayo, and chopped Walnuts. After making it, I believe it calls for too much mayo and milk because it wasn't as firm as it should have been, but it was good!
Here are some pictures of it. Unfortunately they don't really look that great because one of the lights went out in my kitchen, so it was kind of dark.
I'll make it again soon with some adjustments to the recipe, because I would like for it to be more presentable. I think it's a neat dish and would like to make it for a party someday!
I also just recently had some glass cut for my the kitchen window frames that I've been working on. Here's a picture of it currently, but there's still more work to be done to it before it's finished.
I had to do some searching, but I found a company in Pennsauken, New Jersey (SWISCO), that specializes in out of production and hard to find parts for windows. I was needing some new spiral balance with the correct brackets and a tension tool for my frames and wasn't able to find much of anything anywhere else.
I'm also planning to improve these windows by making it possible to lower the top sash, which at present are only blocked in place. I think that having kitchen windows where both the top and bottom sash are movable is a nice feature, because sometimes you might get the kitchen smokey from burning something on the stove top and want a way to let all that out quick.
Thanks for reading my blog!
