Texas Linux Fest 2026

I plan to attend the 2026 Texas Linux Fest this November. It'll be in the same location as last year, which thankfully is not down town Austin. I'm looking forward to the event and meeting up with any CozyNet blog readers too, as well as any friends that decide to go!

I'll have to buy supper again for everyone that shows up. :^)

I also usually make an attempt to meetup with the Jupiter Broadcasting gang and whatever they have going on since I've known them going back to at least 2012. Anyone's welcome to tag along though!

This also makes a good opportunity to knock out any "knowledge" based performance goals with your employer if you work in IT. It even sounds like my employer will cover the expense too!

CozyNet site housekeeping

I recently purchased the cozynet.net domain, but haven't done anything with it yet. The .net domain was partly acquired to prevent typo-squatting and possible extended future utility. At the moment it permanently redirects to the .blog domain. I would acquire the .com domain for similar reasons, except that it's already owned.

Originally CozyNet was simply cozynet.org. I like .org domains because they're not typically blocked or heavily weighed by mail spam filters, which was ideal for the forum when it came to user driven password resets and notification settings. Don't want those getting blocked or directed to spam!

Also this site was more than just a blog in the beginning since it was hosting a PHPBB forum, IRC & bouncer service, Mumble for VoIP, Prosody for XMPP, Postfix SMTP service, a game server, and a few other things. Now-a-days it's just a blog, which is why I thought it to be appropriate to buy the .blog domain and prioritize that. The .org address remains in place for legacy reasons and email.

I searched cozynet.net on the waybackmachine and found that it belonged to what appears to be a generic WordPress template page in 2024, and in 2003 it had a single page with a gif saying "coming soon." The .org and .blog domains weren't ever used before from what I gathered. I find it kind of fun to dig into the past of a domain name to see where all it's been. It's like digital archaeology.

In addition to housekeeping, I've made some minor additions and tweaks to the link page. I can't remember if I've already mentioned it, but I thought it would be a good idea to add some more stuff to it since it was kind of empty.

I would like to add more sites to the link page, but struggle to find anything worth linking to anymore. If you know of anything interesting that I could link to on the link page, then shoot it to me in an email or the below comment form and I'll check it out. I'm a little picky about what goes on the link page though, so please don't get upset if I don't include it. I can't exactly specify my criteria since I don't know it myself, but generally I like sites that are simple, desktop focused (i.e. non-mobile), and non-commercial in nature. If you look thru the current sites I have linked, you'll see what I'm saying.

Actual house housekeeping

As per usual, there's not much development going on here house work wise. I've been talking with a friend of mine from church who runs a cleanup and remodel business that's interested in coming out my way to clean up the barn and backyard. This might not take place until sometime next year in April, but if any sooner that would be awesome. I don't know how much it'll cost, but it will be exciting to see all of it cleaned up for once and to have a place I could finally park my cars!

I'm still slowly working on my kitchen window project too. It's just that I've been pulled around doing so many other things, that I have little time to get anything done around the house. It's a wonder I manage to get anything done at all...
